Help following traumatic divorce

Divorce can be one of the most painful processes in a Georgia resident's life and can affect more than just the couple involved. In some cases, psychological trauma can occur in one of three types. If a person going through a divorce is suffering from flashbacks, anxiety that is causing debilitating results, the inability to cope or extreme vulnerability, it is likely that he or she has gone through a traumatic divorce.

Divorcé(e)s may suffer from post traumatic stress disorder, complex trauma or acute trauma. These are very serious and can have more than just an emotional or psychological toll.

However, even through divorce's roughest, most traumatic and stressful points, there are steps one can take in order to decrease his or her suffering. Although trauma will stay with a person for life, effects will fade with time and a healthier life can be obtained.

Therapy can be one of the most important steps to dealing with trauma during and following a divorce. It can also shed some light on past circumstances that may have contributed to present trauma. Divorce support groups can also be extremely helpful and people going through divorce can bond over similar experiences and emotions.

In addition, new technology has been known to help ease trauma and certain responses. Medications may also be an option as they can ease depression and triggers of the traumatic experience.

Finally, grieving is an important step to the process of healing.

Though divorce can be one of the hardest things to do, there are individuals who can help someone separating from a spouse get through the process. In addition to a strong support network of friends and family, a divorce attorney is available to help cover the legal and financial aspects of divorce, allowing the individual to grieve and move forward.
