Usher tells Tameka to leave Georgia Estate under divorce settlement terms

Followers of this blog have read stories involving many different friction points that may arise during a divorce. Just last week, a post covered the difficulties divorced parents may face as we head into Thanksgiving week, commonly the gateway to the holiday season. Child support, child custody and other issues have been featured on this blog.

A common friction point may involve property issues, especially in a high-asset divorce in Georgia. But it is important to note that there really is no one-size-fits-all divorce settlement in a high-asset divorce. Obviously, there is really no one-size-fits all in any divorce proceeding. The recent news surrounding the 2009 divorce settlement between Usher and his ex-wife Tameka highlights how issues in a divorce may be unique in each case.

It would seem that the divorce of a celebrity would involve contentious issues related to the division of property. But like any case, a high-asset divorce can also see issues in other areas, like child custody or support.

This blog previously discussed the high-profile divorce between the well-known singer Usher and his ex-wife Tameka. The couple had a divorce settlement regarding the custody of their kids in 2009, but in February of this year the two became embroiled in a child custody modification dispute.

Usher reportedly was given full primary custody of the two children over the summer. The singer says that his ex-wife has had time to find a new place to live since the custody dispute was resolved.

Usher reportedly purchased a Georgia mansion spanning more than 12,5oo feet in 2007 for a cool $3 million. In 2009, the divorce settlement between Usher and Tameka reportedly provided that Usher would keep the mansion. But the settlement allowed Tameka to continue living at the estate. Usher could sell the property for any amount, but was required to give Tameka 60 days notice to vacate the property, under the terms of the divorce settlement.

Media reports indicate that Usher's lawyers sent notification to Tameka in September that she had 60 days to vacate the property. The Georgia estate has been placed on the market for $3.2 million.
