30 children leaves dad struggling to make child support payments

There have been numerous stories about parents who fail to provide financially for their children. When parents divorce, it is almost guaranteed that the noncustodial parent is ordered to pay the custodial parent a certain amount in child support. Oftentimes the custodial parent will get the money that is due to him or her, but there are also sensational stories of "deadbeat" parents who either pay nothing or very little.

It seems that one man has been having trouble paying the mothers of his children on his minimum-wage salary. It can be difficult for anyone to pay child support if he or she is earning minimum wage, but when you have 30 children, it is nearly impossible.

This father has 30 children with 11 different women, despite telling a local television station in 2009 that he did not want any more than the 21 children he already had. Some sources have said that he did not plan on having this many children and that twice he had four kids in the same year.

His child support has become the focus of the court. Since he is making very little money, some of the women are only receiving $1.49 a month from his paycheck. Recognizing that he is unable to properly support his children on his own, he has asked the state to help him with his child support payments.

This story reminds us that, for some Georgians, a noncustodial parent may not follow through with the child support payments that the court has ordered. There are remedies, however. Custodial parents can bring the noncustodial parent into court and demand that the father or mother help financially support his or her child.
