"Teen Mom 2" star files for divorce, braces for custody battle

Most people have a picture of the ideal marriage in their mind when they walk down the aisle at their wedding. However, after the excitement of the wedding wears off, people are left to figure out how to handle day-to-day living together. Sometimes, couples discover they may have entered into marriage too quickly and are simply not meant to be together. When this happens, a divorce can be a blessing.

Leah Messer, star of MTV's controversial television show "Teen Mom 2," discovered this as she recently filed for divorce. Because the two have had a turbulent relationship, many people are not surprised that they have decided to go their separate ways.

The 18-year-old dated her husband briefly before she became pregnant. After she gave birth to their twin daughters, the two ended their relationship. However, six months later they decided to get back together. Within weeks, they moved in together and became engaged. They were married for six months when Messer filed for divorce last October.

Insiders predict that the two will likely endure a bitter custody battle during the divorce proceedings. People close to the couple report that Messer's soon-to-be-former husband plans to seek custody of the 16-month-old twins and that his parents, who do not care for Messer, are willing to spend whatever amount necessary to make sure he obtains custody.

Ending a marriage is never easy, even when a marriage was relatively short. There are a number of practical, financial and emotional issues that need to be addressed. Fortunately, after all is said and done, each party will move on to a new life after a divorce.
